The beginning of a scientific investigation can be the most complex point and with the least amount of ideas to develop it. One of the initial and most important points in an investigation is the analysis of the problematic situation, since all the subsequent development starts from it; and if a correct and reasoned analysis is not carried out, unclear points will be found in different parts of the investigation. Thus, there are structured and applied support tools to carry out a much more dynamic and orderly analysis of the problem. This descriptive research article presents the 6 main tools in the analysis of the problematic situation: the collection of information, the Ishikawa diagram, the Vester matrix, the Pareto diagram, the stratification of the causes and the evaluation of alternative solutions. In the course of the article, each tool is defined and the way to develop them is detailed, providing tables and model figures; as well as its interpretation for a correct analysis.
