Abstract

The study focuses on the use of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to characterize malignant hepatic neoplasms. Diffusion is a technique that assesses fluid restriction in tissues, providing crucial information through the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). Despite the global prevalence of malignant hepatic neoplasms, research on this technique at the national level is limited. The research adopted a descriptive, observational, and quantitative approach, analyzing retrospective data from 73 individuals with liver lesions, of which 24 were solid malignancies, 17 were benign and solid, and 22 were benign and cystic. The results revealed that malignant hepatic lesions had a mean ADC value of 0.9839 x 10^-3 mm^2/s, with specific values of 0.955 x 10^-3 mm^2/s for hepatocellular carcinoma and 1.012 x 10^-3 mm^2/s for hepatic metastases. In contrast, benign solid lesions recorded an average ADC of 1.657 x 10^-3 mm^2/s.
